Looks aside, it’s a half wagon, more than just a simple liftback sedan.

Aren’t all liftbacks wagettes?

Neat idea.
I think I’ll call cars of this type ‘ungainly’ ;)

All cars are the AMC Eagle now.

The new regal is a lift back but not a wagette.
Notice the lack of extra butt compared to the BMW

That...just doesn’t work. BMW, you can make a hothatch, a wagon or a liftback sportscoupe, but please don’t try to make one car be all three of those things. It’s bad.

That’s a lot nicer nickname than I use for them.
I call them “crosstours”

That’s a really good way to describe them lol. It’s like putting the appetizer, entrée and dessert all on one plate. It just doesn’t work

Further complicating matters, BMW has two different wagette flavors.
Gran Turismo = larger, taller liftback version of a sedan
Gran Coupe = smaller, lower liftback version of a sedan (at least when talking about the 4 GC and not the 6 GC which is a longer, lower, wider sedan version of a sedan)
The 3 GT and 6 GT are bigger in every dimension than the 3 and 5 series sedans.
The 4 GC is smaller than the 3 series sedan in basically every dimension and its rear headroom and visibility suck because of the combination of swoopy roofline and high beltline.
Porsche Panamera now also comes in two different wagette flavors.
Audi is towards the lower, swoopier end of the spectrum with the A5 Sportback and A7 but not quite as compromised in rear headroom and visibility as the 4 GC.

Whoa whoa whoa...no need for slurs, man!

Should we just call the GC variants liftbacks and make the GT variants the wagettes? It would keep things relatively simple lol.

I’m going to call it “ugly”. I’ve never understood the appeal of this style. Seems like a terrible compromise between sedan and wagon.

But then Porsche has to go and be all confusing too!

Hahaha

Does the panamera get a pass because there’s no “sedan” version?

Last I heard GC and GT are merging though, at least for 3/4.

Saab were doing this before it was cool.
And tbh, I’ve yet to see anyone do it better since.
